"I believe I can do everything, and I believe I'm going to survive the outside world and I believe in fairies," said Alexia Anastasio, a Northport filmmaker, the inspiration behind her first feature film, "I Believe."
"I Believe" tells the story off a group of college students that play a live action role playing game in which the characters are fighting their own personal battles, the film is a "coming-of-age story," which chronicles how the characters persevere and transform themselves.
"I want it to be a hopeful film, I want to show people, you have to love yourself before you can love others, that's one of the lessons, you can do anything you set yourself out to do," said Anastasio, who has directed, starred and self-distributed two short films, "Church 4 Sale" and "Salome," has edited the feature documentary "Vampira: The Movie," and was the associate producer of "The Wild World of Ted V. Mikels."
Shooting for "I Believe" will begin in September, Anastasio said, as they are still in the process of casting. In order to help cover costs of shooting and post production, Anastasio will be hosting a fundraiser this Sunday, May 4th beginning at 7:30pm in the Sky Room at the Cinema Arts Centre.
The event, entitled "An Enchanted Evening of Music and Mayhem," will feature performances by Anastasio, Yvette Edery, Laura Joy, Liz Lewis, Teletexile, Andy Gladding, Cold Flavor Repair, a puppeteer and a live auction. Auction prizes include tickets to The Colbert Report, singing lessons and a date with the director and crew members.
T-shirts, crowns, wings, and horns will be sold at the event and faeries will be walking around to take pictures with the audience. Whilst admission is free there is a suggested donation of $20-$25 at the door.
"It will be a fun and inspiring event." Anastasio said "It will also be a celebration of spring."
